Former VMI football coach Thalman, 89, passesNCAA Football Betting Lines02/03/2012 - Lexington, VA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Former VMI football coach Bob Thalman died at age 89 on Tuesday in Atlanta from the effects of Alzheimer's disease. Thalman was VMI's longest-tenured head coach, compiling a 54-93-3 record in 14 seasons from 1971-84. A Wheeling, W.Va., native, Thalman led VMI to Southern Conference titles in 1974 and 1977. The Keydets haven't won a SoCon crown since then and his 6-3 squad in 1981 is their most recent winning squad. Thalman also coached at Hampden-Sydney, North Carolina and Georgia Tech during a 38-year career. He is survived by Mary Thalman, his wife of 62 years, four children and 10 grandchildren. The Roanoke Times first reported Thalman's passing on Friday.

They share those same odds with the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers – two teams that didn't even qualify for the postseason.
